Individual Commitment, Team Results!

MAG-U provides a safe and fun opportunity for children between the ages of 4 and 15 years old who register with us to enjoy the game of lacrosse.  MAG-U's programs are as follows:

Wee-Tyke clinic for boys and girls between 4 and 7 years old.  The clinic is Sunday mornings from mid June until mid August.  Players need only bring a stick (and boys should wear a protective cup if possible). They will be playing with 'pinkie' balls, which are a softer rubber ball and don't require full protective gear such as helmets, gloves, pads, etc.

K-2 (in planning stages to potentially start in the Spring 2011) will be for boys and girls who are in kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade ( must be 6 years old on March 1st of the season in question).  We expect the format will be modified small sided teams (3v3 or 4v4) on a small local field (similar to MOD soccer) against other teams in our program. Players need only bring a stick (and boys should wear a protective cup if possible). They will be playing with 'pinkie' balls, which are a softer rubber ball and don't require full protective gear such as helmets, gloves, pads, etc.

3-4 (U11) is for boys in 3rd grade and 4th grade.  Girls who enjoy some contact as well as mature players in the 1st grade and 2nd grade are also welcome at this level.  Players require a stick, protective cup, helmets, gloves, pads, etc. (MAG-U has equipment to loan out).  All players must be at least 7 years old and and not older than 10 years on March 1st of the season in question.

5-6 (U13) is for boys in 5th grade and 6th grade.  Girls who enjoy contact as well as mature players in the 4th grade are also welcome at this level.  Players require a stick, protective cup, helmets, gloves, pads, etc. (MAG-U has equipment to loan out).  All players must be under 13 years old on March 1st of the season in question.

7-8 (U15) is for boys in 7th grade and 8th grade.  Girls who enjoy contact as well as mature players in the 6th grade are also welcome at this level.  Players require a stick, protective cup, helmets, gloves, pads, etc. (MAG-U has equipment to loan out).  All players must be under 15 years old on March 1st of the season in question.

The U11, U13 and U15 teams participate in the BYLW league against other teams in the area.  Registration starts in October or November, practices start in January, and the season runs from early March until late May or early June.  Because the city closes the grass fileds until mid March, the city has in the past assigned MAG-U turf fields at Salmon Bay, Loyal heights, and Whitman.  MAG-U is limited in its capacity to grow by availability of field space.  Subject to the availability of fields, MAG-U will have as many teams at each age division as there is demand to make up full teams.  Roster size per team is between 18 and 24.

Parents should consider How to Fit Lacrosse Equipment when buying their child's equipment.  MAG-U recommends Breakaway Lacrosse located at 2525 6th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121 (corner of Denny and 6th)

A valid birth certificate will determine the player's age and division of play. The age limitations are intended to protect the safety of the children. A player who does not meet the age restrictions for their grade may request MAG-U to petition the BYLW Board for an exception.

For girls who want to play lacrosse without the contact and full equipment should consider Queen Anne Quick Styx girl's lacrosse program.

Participating in a Magnolia United program is a priveledge and not a right.  During the registration process, all players, parents, and coaches sign pledges for acceptable codes of conduct (see Governance). MAG-U is a volunteer run organization and reserves the right to remove any disruptive players from the program and refund registration dues according to the MAG-U disciplinary policy.
